JOB TITLE:  Temporary Program Assistant


DEPARTMENT: Policy, Evaluation and Transformation


REPORTS TO:  Director, Policy Evaluation and Transformation & Chief Product Officer 



This position will report directly to the Director of the Policy, Evaluation, and Transformation Group at the Academy and will be expected to assist with the design and management of open innovation challenge. This includes, research on the challenge topics, conducting and participating in interviews with relevant stakeholders, recruiting judges, drafting challenge statements, and assisting with organizing the solutions. This person will be expected to work independently and provide ideas and solutions, and when appropriate, interact with partners and experts. This position will work on various large scale, cross department partnerships that provide innovation challenges for students from around the world interested in STEM. The ideal candidate will have an interest in global challenges, STEM education, mentorship, cross sector partnerships and online education



  • Conduct research on the various challenge areas and assemble lists of experts for interviews and potential judges.
  • Participate in program and periodic check-ins to ensure program compliance.
  • Draft high level summaries on the challenge areas and contribute to the challenge statements.
  • Review and suggest ways to improve administrative processes.
  • UTC virtual challenge recruitment for students, teachers, and expert mentors. Build recruitment lists, research organizations/schools to recruit from globally, send recruitment emails, follow up with contacts and answer questions. 
  • UTC clubs/classrooms challenge. Build recruitment partnerships with schools, universities and companies around the world. This position will research new partnerships, conduct outreach to brief potential partners on the program and periodic check-ins to ensure program compliance.
  • UTC virtual challenge, community engagement. Post articles on LP, answer student emails.
  • Build rapport across the Academy and attend meetings with the Director. When appropriate, attend high level meetings with internal and external stakeholders.


  • Strong interpersonal skills -- ability to easily and quickly develop rapport with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Flexibility and ability to problem solve
  • Passion for furthering the development of science education and the opportunities for at-risk youth
  • Knowledge of best practices in online learning and/or community management a plus


  • Current student or recent graduate (majoring in any STEM field)
  • Knowledge of sustainable development and/or STEM is preferred



This is a paid position. Academic credit may be substituted in certain circumstances where applicable.

Duration: Approximately 15-20 hours per week for up to 6 Months starting in July 2017.
